About us & the farm
We're Jocelyn & Tim, first generation farmers with a passion for good food and responsible environmental stewardship. When we're not farming or slicing cabbage in our kraut kitchen, there's a good chance we're exploring Nova Scotia's beaches and hiking trails with our dog and our birding binoculars.
Founded in 2015, Seven Acres Farm began as an unused parcel of land consisting of an overgrown meadow and a young forest. After moving a house onto the land, we began the work of developing growing spaces for annual vegetables and flowers, planting fruit and nut trees, building storage sheds, a walk-in cooler, a farm stand, and our provincially inspected sauerkraut kitchen.
We currently sell our products direct from the farm, at various weekly farmers markets, and through 30+ independent retail shops in the province.
We are so incredibly grateful that we’ve been able to pursue this livelihood. We love our farm and our life together on it, and we’re so happy that we’re able to share this journey and our products with you.
Seven Acres Farm & Ferments holds active memberships with the Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture and the National Farmers Union.
Between the two of us, we’ve had the honour of serving on various organization Boards in our community including those of the Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture, Kings County Federation of Agriculture, the Wolfville Farmers’ Market, the Tantallon Farmers’ Market, and the Blomidon Naturalists Society.
Our farming practices
Our interest in farming is heavily influenced by our passion for the natural world. We love nature and the rich biodiversity that inhabits it. As farmers, we are committed to farming in a way that does as little damage as possible to the land we’re on and our hope is that our practices may even help regenerate the soil, plant, insect and animal life that we share this space with.
We take our stewardship of this land very seriously and our dream is to see it continue to evolve and become even more rich in biodiversity as each year passes.
Fun fact: We have recorded 102 different bird species on our farm since we began keeping bird records in 2020!

We plant cover crops to protect and feed our soil and use living mulch pathways instead of fabric or plastic as much as possible. We also practice rotational planting to give the soil breaks between seasons.
We grow a variety of perennial shrubs and trees and leave parts of the farm untouched to provide protection and living spaces for insects, amphibians, reptiles, rodents, birds and mammals.
We use protective row cover on crops that are sensitive to bug pressure instead of using herbicides or pesticides.
The only sprays we use on our crops are ones we make ourselves by creating teas from our on-farm compost combined with beneficial native and perennial plant matter.
Seven Acres Farm & Ferments is located within Mi'kma'ki – the unceded, ancestral territories of the Mi’kmaq people.
